Our Last Year and Forwards

31 July 2024

Over the past year Bods has continued to offer amazing opportunities and to teach many skills not only in the theatre but in life.

More learning!

One of our members chose the path of College with acting and media, she is now sought after for running sound and helping with other projects and groups in performance including recently a National wheelchair dance championship. Another came back to Bods after a theatrical drama college course. Some members have been offered the chance to join film extras work and moving forward with that as well.

Filming

Last year 2023 Bods was asked to be the actors in a police filming video which turned out to be 13 films in which 19 Bods took part in 11 films, this was about safeguarding for young people and has gone out nationally. They are now looking to do another set of videos which they have asked us to be part of once again. This was a great honour and the Cast has been offered the opportunity to put it on CVs, references etc and the fact this was for Thames Valley Police. The experience of working for such an amazing good cause and in filming and production was the experience we try to offer. They were invited to the national launch and mentioned in all the literature.

Opportunity!

In January 2024 a member was given the opportunity to write and direct his first pantomime which was a huge success and went on to be awarded two top prizes for costumes and the best Dame! It was a fantastic show and the audience loved it with great ticket sales and we are so proud of the director for his achievements.

September sees Alfie ( 17) directing his first-ever show Blood Brothers! We also have two more members looking at directing in the near future.

John Drew is writing a new pocket panto to be taken out into the community again this year and has finished his beautiful new play Love me do! For bringing to the stage next year.

Collaboration and resources

Over the past 8 months, Mandy (Bod's founder and director) was asked to direct a big musical Evita at Chipping Norton Theatre for another group, this was performed a few weeks ago with outstanding success and over 700 people came to watch. This collaboration created new opportunities once again with five cast/crew from Evita joining Bods. 9 members of Bods were involved in leading roles, crew and costumes for this production.

More awards

Bods went in for two big drama festivals in June with a 40 min 1930s comedy play... once again it’s about doing something new and working in other professional theatres. 12 Bods were involved in these each show. We have since one a top award for one of the festivals.

Our plan for the rest of this year is.

Our winter show SNOW QUEEN will start rehearsing in September and will be performed in January/February 2025 and will again be a very big spectacular colourful show which will include all the members in many capacities. It will have approximately 35/40 people in various parts involved maybe more.

The committee work tirelessly to create a safe, healthy and fun group and are working on 2025/2026/2027 shows and dates already for performances, while still fitting in all the other new and exciting opportunities that keep popping up.
